FRANCISKA CLAUSEN (1899-1986) Sea Lion with Balloon, 1926 Wire painting and felt pen drawing on panel, signed and dated lower right. Dimensions with frame: 48.5 x 38.5 cm - A Danish painter born in Åbenrå, she studied at the Weimar School of Fine Arts (1916-1917), the Munich Women's Academy (1918-1919), the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (1920-1921) and with Hans Hofmann (1921-1922). She also took private lessons with László Moholy-Nagy, Alexander Archipenko in Berlin and Fernand Léger in Paris (1924-1925). Clausen made a name for herself with her cubist paintings and exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris in 1927 and 1928. In 1933, she became a teacher at the Tegne-og Kunstindustriskolen for Kvinder in Copenhagen.
