A Swiss painter and sculptor born in Geneva and who died in Tourette-Levens, he is one of the leading figures of the Ecole de Nice. His work began with figuration before moving towards abstraction. He studied at the Arts-Décoratifs in Geneva before travelling to Algeria and settling in Paris, where he discovered abstract art through the work of Nicolas de Staël.
His return to Algeria and a trip to Greece, Italy and Spain determined his future work, colour palette and pictorial references. Without ever belonging to a particular group, Albert Chubac followed the movement of the Ecole de Nice, taking part in numerous exhibitions.
