Description
LEAH POLLER (Pennsylvania ca.1950) 101 Beds" collection, Rose Bed Unique piece, bronze sculpture with different polychrome patinas. Signed and numbered 1/1 with the founder's stamp. Dimensions: 19 x 20 x 16.5 cm - An American figurative artist, she studied at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Art in Paris, where she stayed for some twenty years. There she learned the many meticulous stages of the lost wax technique for casting her bronze sculptures from wax models. On her return to the United States, Leah exhibited in galleries, museums, institutions and public spaces. What is the 101 beds collection? Following an accident in her studio, her long convalescence in bed gave rise to a fascinating study of our relationship with the bed, the place where we spend more than a third of our lives. Through her visual, literary and narrative works, Poller uses the bed as a metaphor to capture the full range of emotions - humour, pathos, fantasy, sarcasm, tragedy and passion - in three dimensions, offering tangible proof of our common humanity. In over 100 bronze sculptures incorporating materials such as stone, pearls, ceramics and acrylic, Leah Poller depicts the bed as it exists in our dreams and nightmares.
