A Spanish painter born in Granada, Vico y Hernandez studied at the Madrid School of Fine Arts. He made his debut at the 1876 National Exhibition with the paintings "Courtyard of the Mosque of the Arab Palace of the Alhambra", the house where the painter Melgarejo lived, "Door to the Hall of the Two Sisters of the Alhambra" and "A Beggar". Between 1877 and 1880, he exhibited several Orientalist compositions at the Paris Salon, making his reputation.
