Daniel Cordier, who was the first to exhibit it in 1958 on the recommendation of Jean Dubuffet, owned a very similar painting, L'Architecte, also dated 1959, which is now in the collections of the Musée national d'art moderne/Centre Georges Pompidou thanks to his donation.
