Description
Maria PERGAY (1930-2023)
Rare Totem table lamp, the model created circa 1974
Stainless steel and polished bronze
60 x 36 x 19 cm
Provenance: collection of the American architect and decorator Constantin Vichey (1933-2026), then by descent
Bibliography: Suzanne Demisch, Stéphane Danant, op. cit, the floor lamp and wall lamp versions, with the same decorative motif and construction structure, reproduced on pages 177 and 178 and described under references 77 A and 77 B.
This lamp was acquired in New York in the early 1970s from Harvey Probber, Maria Pergay's distributor in the United States, for the decor that Constantin Vichey created for his father Luben Vichey and his mother-in-law Anna Vichey's flat on Fifth Avenue. When the couple died, Constantin Vichey brought the lamp back to France, first to furnish a family home in the Gard region of France, then to his personal home in Bordeaux, where it remained until his death.
