Description
Alecos Fassianos (1935–2022) Solitary Figure in a Landscape 1997 Acrylic on canvas, signed top centre, in a rare frame made by the artist 50.5 x 32 cm Provenance: > Private collection, Northern France (gift from the artist) Bibliography: > Catalogue of the exhibition “Alecos Fassianos, l’Atelier du peintre”, Institut français, Piraeus, 1998, p. 29 (reproduced full-page) Exhibitions: > Alecos Fassianos, l’Atelier du peintre, Institut français, Piraeus, October 1998 This work exemplifies the subtle blend of classicism and modernity that made Fassianos so successful. These stylised lines and vivid colours are reminiscent of the artist’s years in exile in Paris, during the era of the Colonels. These figures, with their solemn profiles, wearing ties and holding scarves in their hands, are captured in the soft light of sunsets, sometimes set against mountainous, rocky landscapes and adorned with cypress trees.
