Takis (1925–2019) Magnetic headpiece for Melina Mercouri, circa 1983–1984. Made of at least 18K gold (750 ‰) and bearing a Greek 22K hallmark (916 ‰) Weight of the gold headpiece: 14.71 g Weight of the magnets: 10.65 g Provenance: > Former Melina Mercouri collection, Athens (gift from the artist) > Private collection, Athens We would like to thank the Takis Foundation – K.E.T.E. for the information kindly provided regarding the provenance of this piece of jewellery. This piece is a head ornament worn on the forehead, around the hair, in the style of women in ancient Greece or Egypt. It was specially created by Takis as a gift for Melina Mercouri, who wore it notably during an official visit to Beijing, China, in 1984, whilst she was Minister of Culture.
