Description
Tadao Ando (born 1941) Bourse du Commerce Pastel on paper mounted on cardboard, signed at the bottom centre, positioned in the centre right 23.4 x 17 cm Tadao Ando is the architect who oversaw the conversion of the Bourse du Commerce into a museum of contemporary art for François Pinault’s collection. Opened in 2021, the project preserves the building’s historic structure whilst incorporating a major contemporary architectural intervention: a nine-metre-high concrete cylinder installed beneath the dome. This geometric form, characteristic of Tadao Ando’s work, creates a dialogue between heritage and modernity. The architect has thus designed a simple, uncluttered space that showcases the artworks whilst respecting the history of the site. The Bourse de Commerce is now an iconic example of how contemporary architecture can reinvent a historic monument without erasing its identity.
