Description
Nani Champy Schott (born 1959) Pebbles [2] Made of raku stoneware with black glazed decoration, bearing the artist’s monogram on the base
Dimensions: 13 x 45 cm and 20 x 47 cm “Since her teenage years, Nani Champy Schott has been forging her own path as a ceramicist with tenacity and passion, like a miner in search of emeralds.
The shape of her pieces resembles pebbles, rocks tumbled in torrents or churned by the tides.
In Brittany, on the north coast which she is particularly fond of, the pebbles lining the sandy edge of the Talbert channel tirelessly capture the sea and the imagination.
These pebbles of time, these pebbles in which time has stood still, inspire Nani, who works in harmony here with minerals and, in her earlier ceramics, with plant life too.
These contemporary forms take us back to childhood. At low tide, climbing over the rocks, turning over stones in pools of water, in search of life and vibrant colour. Clutching these treasures of beauty between our fingers, because without a single word they exude a reassuring strength.
A ceramic approach that soothes and brings tranquillity. It teaches us to let go. To create not to accumulate, but to discover that the path is there; it strips us bare, it wrings us out.”
Bernard David
“My work is about emotion, sensitivity, Raku, colour, balance, porcelain, lightness, and the desire to touch and be touched. Through my ceramics, I want to set the material in motion, to lend grace and lightness to the earth and to life.”
