Jean Aujame (1905–1965) La Bête ravisseuse 1963 Oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right, titled, countersigned and counter-dated, and bearing a former label from the Galerie Percier in Paris on the reverse 54 x 81 cm Provenance: > Galerie Percier, Paris > Galerie Bertrand Trocmez, Clermont-Ferrand > Private collection, Auvergne Bibliography: Work listed in the catalogue raisonné under number CAT 1774 RUDEL (Jean). Aujame. Geneva, Caillet, 1973. Reproduced as no. 60. Exhibitions: Exhibited at the Château de la Chassaigne in Thiers (12 June to 17 September 2017) Condition report: Framed Jean Aujame was a French painter and lithographer who trained in Rouen before settling in Paris in 1930. Following a period in Algeria and several trips around Europe, he developed a figurative body of work centred on the landscapes and villages of central France. Having been a prisoner of war, he subsequently settled in Sauvagnat-Sainte-Marthe, where he founded an artists’ community known as the ‘École de Sauvagnat’.
