Description
Geormillet, Georges Millet (known as) (born 1948) Uccello nell’azzuro 1985 Mixed media (ink, collage) on paper, signed, dated and titled on the reverse 147 x 188 cm Condition report: Framed Georges Millet was born in 1948 in Beaulieu-sur-Mer. From 1978 onwards, the artist featured in several group and solo exhibitions, notably in Lyon. He blended seamlessly into the urban landscape of his hometown, creating in 1991 ‘In aeternum renatus’ – meaning ‘born for eternity’ – a monumental sculpture integrated into the fossil-bearing stone of the ‘Vieux Lyon, Cathédrale St Jean’ station on the Lyon metro. This installation evokes the concepts of erosion and reconstruction, combining various materials such as glass, paint and archaeological stones. As a painter and traveller, his works are imbued with his memories and dreams, which he strives to convey.
The work we are presenting here is quite characteristic of the years 1985–1986, and of his ‘éclats d’oiseaux’ series. Here again, the artist delights in combining different techniques within vibrantly coloured compositions, which can be likened to the works of the CoBrA group.
