Description
CHINA, late Qing dynasty
Wooden armchair carved in hongmu, with a high back decorated with three burl wood panels carved in relief showing a five-clawed dragon in the central part, and phoenixes among bamboos on the side panels. The whole is framed by uprights decorated with a latticework background motif, the wide elm burl seat resting on a belt and smooth aprons, the whole supported by sturdy square-section legs linked by struts.
