Description
ƒ CHINA, Qianlong period, 18th century Rare pair of porcelain covered vases for export Of poly-lobed bottle form known as "apple blossom", the bases arched, the globular bellies accosted by handles taking the form of figures on stands in the shape of lingzhi mushrooms, wide flared necks at the opening. Both are richly decorated in famille rose polychrome enamels with figures in circular cartouches on either side of the handles, the backgrounds decorated with a multitude of flowering branches in relief on an orange background lined with geometric motifs, all highlighted in gold. The lids are topped with handles in the form of seated chimeras. Height: 36 cm Width: 18 cm (One handle missing, small chips, restorations and missing relief decoration) Comparison: A pair of identical vases in the collections of the Guangzhou Thirteen Hongs Museum (Canton).
