Description
CHINA, Jiaqing period, late 18th-early 19th century Elegant pair of bronze and cloisonné enamel vases Mounted on high circular legs, the quadrangular sides with crenellated openings, each displaying a rich polychrome enamel decoration on a turquoise background of landscapes in circular medallions, the background decorated with bats in clouds, flanked by wide ormolu handles in the form of chimera heads with rings. Resting on adapted wooden bases. Total height: 14.5 cm Width: 10 cm (Pierced bottoms) Provenance: French family collection. Supposedly brought back from Asia in the mid-20th century by a close family friend known by the first name of Marcel. The presence of a book dedicated by Michel Beurdeley to Marcel (1962) testifies to his interest in Far Eastern art. The collection has been passed down to the current owners.
