Description
CHINA, 18th century
Rare gilt bronze and cloisonné enamel mirror stand
The base in the form of a half-sphere decorated with sacred mountains and tumultuous waves in relief, surmounted by a scroll in the form of a lingzhi moving towards the sky in relief. The rounded support takes the form of stylised taotie masks in the archaic style. A Japanese mirror is attached.

Provenance: According to family tradition, this stand was brought back to France following the Chinese campaign (1860) by Brigadier General Paul Victor Jamin (1807-1868), then commanding the 1ᵉʳ brigade of the French expeditionary corps under Major General Charles Cousin-Montauban in October 1860.
