CHINA, late Ming dynasty
Copper hand warmer
Quadrangular in shape, with openwork and repoussé cover, decorated with pavilions and Immortals on a boat. Bearing a stamp "姑蘇" and production inscriptions of Suzhou in the province of incised under the base.

Provenance: French family collection. Supposedly brought back from Asia in the mid-twentieth century by a relative of the family known as Marcel. The presence of a book dedicated by Michel Beurdeley to Marcel (1962) testifies to his interest in Far Eastern art. The collection has been passed down to the current owners.
