WEST TIBET, 12th century
Bronze subject with brown patina
Representing the female deity Padmapani Lokeshvara standing in slight tribhanga on a high circular moulded base decorated with geometric and floral registers. The right arm is raised, the hand originally holding an attribute - most likely a lotus stem - which is now missing, while the left arm is bent, the hand resting on the hip. She is dressed in a short loincloth and richly adorned with jewellery. The full face is topped by a high, elaborate headdress, and the ears are adorned with large earrings.
