CHINA, 19th century
Porcelain "Hu" gourd vase on a high oval foot. The circular body has a flattened profile and a tubular neck. It is decorated in famille rose enamels: on one side, birds in flowering branches in a circular cartouche; on the other, a scene from Chinese opera. The background is enhanced with lotus scrolls on a powder pink ground. The neck is flanked by two handles depicting bats.
