CHINA, 19th century Rare pair of carved Hongmu wood quadrangular cabinets, each opening on two doors and revealing a shelf. The doors are richly and elegantly decorated, finely carved in relief, with figures moving through rich landscapes, populated by numerous pavilions, rocks and trees, in a setting of rocky mountain peaks for one, and a river for the other. The borders are embellished with floral scrolls, with gilded brass hinges and clasp. The whole resting on four square feet.
