JAPAN, Meiji period, Tsunemitsu
A rare and important okimono in bronze with a brown patina, in the form of a monkey seated on an adapted carved wooden base. The monkey, treated in an extremely naturalistic style, the details of its coat finely chiselled, its eyes treated with painted glass cabochons, is depicted eating a lotus fruit. It is wearing a jacket decorated with flowers, treated with a light brown double patina. Bearing the signature of Tsunemitsu (常光) on the underside and on the tail.
