CHINA, Qing Dynasty
A pair of beautiful rectangular embroidered silk hangings, each featuring a polychrome thread design on an iridescent orange background depicting Immortals and children playing amongst flowering branches, the borders adorned with branches of flowering plum and bamboo, the backs lined with blue silk. Hanging rods at the ends.

Provenance: Formerly in the collection of the seller’s grandfather (1888–1973), a sea-going captain with Messageries Maritimes. The work is believed to have been acquired during his regular voyages to South-East Asia, before being passed down through the family.
