Quadrangular in shape, of the so-called ‘Hu’ type, mounted on a tall square foot; the broad body is surmounted by a neck that flares at the opening, bearing traces of the polychrome paint that originally formed the decoration.

Provenance: Former French family collection. The object may have belonged to one of the current owner’s great-grandfathers, born in 1873, a non-commissioned officer trained at Saint-Cyr, who lived in Asia from 1898 onwards. He was in China from 1901, where he remained for over ten years, and brought back numerous objects during his travels, as non-commissioned officers were permitted at that time to keep certain gifts received from their superiors. It was subsequently passed down through the family.
