Description
IMPERIAL PORCELAIN MANUFACTORY OF SAINT PETERSBURG, AFTER AUGUST SPIESS. An important bust of Empress Catherine II of Russia (1729-1796) in partially glazed white porcelain, depicting the sovereign in a fur collar and wearing the sash of the Order of Saint Andrew of Russia. Her hair, tied back from her head, falls in braids to her shoulders, she is laurelled and wears a kokochnik. The bust rests on a square base, itself mounted on a circular porcelain pedestal. The reverse bears a green mark with the figure of Alexander II under a crown. Work of the Imperial Porcelain Factory of Saint Petersburg, reign of Emperor Alexander II (1855-1881). Height: 35 cm. Diameter of the pedestal: 14.5 cm (Repaints, restorations on the reverse and a ground mark).
