Draped female figurine known as a ‘Tanagra’
Greece, Boeotia, Hellenistic period, c. 3rd century BC
A young woman standing, draped in a loose himation covering her chiton, her right arm drawn across her chest to support the folds. Her head is slightly tilted, her hair styled in a low bun (krobylos). Pinkish-beige terracotta, white engobe, partially preserved pink and mauve polychromy. Oval firing vent on the reverse.
Height: 24 cm
Condition: previous restorations, notably a filling on the right side; head possibly a later addition, with clay and a patina distinct from the body. Partial polychromy, earthy
deposits.
Provenance: former French collection, acquired at auction in the 1990s; passed down through the family.
