Oil on canvas, signed lower left Provenance : Artist's studio, France Private collection, Europe Sale, English and continental pictures, Christie's, London, South Kensington, 1 December 1987, lot 165 Private collection, Europe (acquired at previous sale) Acquired from the latter Notice: "Nor have we said anything about Mr Emile Boggio, who has the privilege of showing seventy-two paintings in a room on the ground floor, views of Paris and the Seine, and above all seascapes, souvenirs of the small port of Nervi. Emile Boggio is an Impressionist whose technique is closer to that of Henri Martin than Claude Monet, and whose temperament is more personal. His vision is fine, he has a very accurate and vivid sense of the harmony of sky and water, and of the movement of the waves; he excels at rendering an effect in all its fullness; his painting gives the eye the pleasure of a vibration taken from nature".
