Description
Two ‘Briquet’ sabres: - Year IX model. Hilt with 33 flutes. Brass mountings bearing traces of the hallmark of Mouton and Beaumaretz in Klingenthal. Reverse of the crossguard with significant impact damage and a fragment of inlaid wood; the quillon ends in a pommel. Flat-backed blade, re-cut Length: 64 cm As found. A fine example of the battles of the Consulate and the Empire. - Year XI model. Hilt with 28 flutes. Brass mount hallmarked in Versailles, ‘AC’ and ‘JC’. Curved blade, unmarked. First Empire-period mount. Length: 73 cm A.B.E. S.F.
