Joseph ARMAND-CALLIAT (1854–1938) – LYON
‘Mater Dei’, 1916.
A wooden frame with a quadrangular body, entirely covered in pearl-grey shag velvet, featuring a circular ivory medallion in the centre. Finely carved medallion depicting the Virgin and Child set in a polychrome enamelled silver mount, decorated with foliage and flowers and incorporating two opal cabochons. In its original case marked ‘Armand-Calliat Fils, silversmith in Lyon’.
Signed and titled on the ivory, master’s and material hallmarks on the setting, and dated 10 June 1916 on a silver plate set at the bottom of the frame.
