Description
Léon BORGEY (1888–1959) The saxophonist – c. 1922. Bronze sculpture painted red. Cast by Rosini (posthumous casting made from the original terracotta model with the permission of the heirs). Monogrammed, bearing the foundry mark and numbered E.A. I/IV on the base at the back. H: 38.5; W: 19.5; D: 14 cm. Note: Like many of his fellow artists – Laurens, Lipchitz, Zadkine, Archipenko – the post-war period and the discovery of jazz inspired Borgey to produce bold, polychrome works in the Cubist style
