Mikhail LARIONOV (1881–1964) Stage mask (For the Midnight Sun) – 1916. Gouache (stencil) and ink on butcher’s paper. Signed and dated lower right. 47 x 32 cm. Exhibition: “Women Artists, Passion, Muses and Models”, Grande Halle, Château de Chamerolles, 16 June to 19 August 2012 (reproduced in the catalogue, p. 106) Note: Formed part of the portfolio “Modern Theatrical Decorative Art” by Natalia Goncharova and Mikhail Larionov, published in an edition of 100 copies. This composition was used as a mask for the Russian ballet *The Snow Maiden* at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in 1915 (music by Limsky-Korsakov, choreography by Leonid Massine, directed by Diaghilev) Resold at a spectacular auction by Mr Belkacem Oud Mebarek in Paris
