Freddy Timms (Kitja) (circa 1944–2017) Gum Creek Crater 2010 Ochre on Belgian linen canvas, signed on the reverse 60 x 60 cm Provenance: > Commissioned by Narrangunny Art Traders > Private collection, Paris A certificate from Narrangunny Art Traders will be provided with the artwork. According to the elders, this place was created in times gone by by a meteorite that fell to earth. A small fragment of this meteorite broke off and fell onto the Lissadel plain, creating a crater which was also known as Little Wolf Creek. Freddie recalls that, as a child, he was told this story of how the site was formed, and that when the crater was created, it generated numerous bursts of air that extinguished the bushfires. In the painting, he depicts the mountainous region in black, with the river (Gum Creek) in the centre and, on the plain – shown in white – the crater in black. MJ
