Description
Michelle Possum Nungurrayi (Luritja / Anmatyerre) (born 1968) Grandmothers’ Country / My Grandmother’s Country 2026 Acrylic on linen canvas 64 x 94 cm Provenance: > Commissioned by Brian Knight of the Aboriginal Desert Art Gallery
A certificate from the Desert Art Centre will be provided with the artwork, along with photographs of the artist at work.
Condition report: Unstretched canvas Michelle is the youngest daughter of Clifford Possum. Like her elder sister Gabriella, Michelle paints the country and stories of her paternal grandmother, Long Rose Nungala. She takes a topographical view of the land. The land is alive with dream paths that are followed at certain times of the year to gather edible plants. She depicts yams, berries, fruits and other vegetables that are gathered by the women of the tribe, usually by digging in the bush. The women, during their ceremonies to give thanks to the land for the food it provides, are depicted in a U-shape. The painting is signed, titled and dated on the reverse by the artist.
