Description
Ningura Napurrula (Ngaatjatjarra) (c.1938–2013) Women’s Ceremony / Cérémonies de femmes 2010 Acrylic on linen canvas 90 x 60 cm Provenance: > Commissioned by Territory Art
> Private collection, France
A certificate from Territory Art will be provided with the artwork. Ningura depicts body paintings associated with women’s ceremonies in her region, Lake McKay, in Western Australia. This depicts a series of shallow salt lakes and clay basins. Digging sticks are depicted, along with a series of natural wells providing access to fresh water. Parallel lines indicate the sand dunes. Ningura is a renowned artist who, alongside several other Aboriginal Australian artists, took part in the architect’s project for the construction of the Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac Museum. She created paintings on the ceilings of the administrative offices above the museum shop, which are visible from Rue de l’Université.
