Condition report: Not stretched on a frame Freddie (Fred Torres) is the son of Barbara Weir and grandson of Minnie Pwerle. He is also the adopted nephew of the greatest Aboriginal Australian artist, Emily Kame Kngwarreye. He began painting in 1989. As a child, he spent a great deal of time with his family in the Utopia region before settling in Alice Springs and Adelaide. In 1993, he founded the Dacou gallery (Dreaming Art Centre of Utopia). His style is similar to that of his mother and his aunt Emily. Many of his paintings are held in collections in Australia, and a large number are also in Europe and the United States. His mother’s homeland is in the Utopia region, 300 km north-east of Alice Springs.
