Luo Erchun ? ??? ? is a Chinese painter trained at the Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts, notably under Yan Wenliang. He became one of the leading figures in Chinese oil painting in the second half of the 20th century and taught in Beijing at the Central Academy of Fine
Arts. His painting is characterised by a free brushstroke, rich colour and a simple composition of the motif. In his figures, Luo Erchun does not seek psychological detail or a conventional portrait.
He works with blocks of colour, contrasts and overall balance, using a direct approach that gives the subject a strong visual intensity.
Our painting follows this style: the figure is constructed without excessive detail, through colour, texture and the rhythm of the brushstrokes.
In 2015, the National Art Museum of China dedicated a major retrospective to him, confirming his place in the history of modern Chinese painting.
