Dado (1933–2010) Untitled, 1982 Mixed media on a background of etching and collage on paper Signed and dated at the bottom centre 63 x 47.5 cm Provenance: Paul and Jacqueline Canfrère Collection Note: According to Amarante Szidon (the artist’s daughter), this is a background from the extremely rare second state of plate E from the drypoint series produced at Lacourière-Frélaut in 1981–82 This series of engravings was the subject of a programme on France-Culture and was also featured in a catalogue entitled ‘Gravures 1981–82’, published by Editions Lacourière-Frélaut, with a preface by Michel Faucher. This second state of plate E is so rare that it is not even reproduced in the catalogue, where it is listed as missing – no doubt because the sole existing print or prints had already been used to create a collage or collages at the time the catalogues were produced.
