ARISTIDE MAILLOL (1861–1944) Nude from behind, shown from the waist up On the front, a red chalk drawing over charcoal lines, enhanced with yellow pastel, monogrammed at the bottom right. Height: 38 cm; Width: 23 cm. On the reverse: Study for Harmonie, drawing in black pencil, numbered 2619 and 25 and annotated ‘perle’. The arms have been retouched at a later date. We would like to thank Olivier Lorquin who kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work and who informed us: This drawing is an original red chalk work by Maillol executed on form paper in 1941. It seems to me that the arms in this drawing have likely been restored, as one can quite clearly detect the restorer’s intervention. On the reverse is a pencil sketch depicting Dina Vierny whilst she was posing for the sculpture Harmonie. Expert: Agnès SEVESTRE-BARBÉ
