Joseph ARMAND-CALLIAT (1854–1938) – LYON
‘Mater Dei’, 1916.
A wooden frame with a quadrangular body, entirely covered in pearl-grey cut velvet, featuring a circular ivory medallion in the centre. Finely carved medallion depicting the Virgin and Child, set within a polychrome enamelled silver mount decorated with foliage and flowers, incorporating two opal cabochons. In its original case marked ‘Armand-Calliat Fils, silversmith in Lyon’.
Signed and titled on the ivory, with master’s and material hallmarks on the setting, and dated 10 June 1916 on a silver plaque set into the base of the frame.
