The frieze visible in the background above the left leg is a bronze sculpture by Honoré Daumier entitled *Les émigrants*, which was then part of Roderic O’Conor’s collection.
According to Jonathan Benington, the specialist in the work of Roderic O’Conor, the red necklace was added later, most likely by the artist’s wife, Renée Honta, who was also a painter.
