Description
René LALIQUE (1860–1945). ‘Swallows’ vase (known as the ‘Whiting’ model) A baluster-shaped vase with a flared neck, made of moulded-pressed white glass, decorated with a slightly raised design of a flock of swallows crossing one another in a continuous band around the body, their wings spread and tails finely chiselled. Satin-finished surface, highlighted with a blue-grey patina emphasising the relief of the decoration. Satin-finished signature engraved in a cartouche beneath the base. H: 21 cm. Bibliography: Model created in 1919, withdrawn from the catalogue around 1937 (related reference: Félix Marcilhac, René Lalique, Catalogue Raisonné de l’Œuvre de Verre, Les Éditions de l’Amateur, Paris — model no. 889A, known as ‘Whiting’).
