Description
Sealing stamp Made of ivory and steel. Elephant ivory of the ‘Proboscidean Elephantidae spp.’ type (Elephas maximus, Loxodonta africana or Loxodonta cyclotis). The handle is in the form of a full-relief statuette depicting an American pioneer in 19th-century attire, wearing a frock coat, waistcoat, breeches, gaiters, a wide-brimmed hat and a scarf tied round his neck. He is holding a rifle in his hands and stands on a rock, with his left leg slightly bent, leaning against a protrusion on the rock. The rock formation serves as a plinth for the statuette. The seal, rectangular in shape with bevelled edges, is made of steel and bears the engraved initials ‘E.F’. Early 20th century, circa 1920–1930 H. 9.5 cm Total gross weight: 28.00 grams CITES permit no.: FR2601300080-K The brim of the hat is broken and has been re-glued; the ivory is slightly discoloured on the back. Slight traces of corrosion on the metal part.
