Description
Lauray, Antibes, (20th century) Large dish Made of polychrome earthenware. Oval in shape, resembling a fish, with a handle on one side shaped like a fish’s tail and another shaped like a fish’s mouth, and a scalloped rim; it is decorated with a seabed scene featuring colourful fish and seaweed. Bears the hand-painted signature ‘Lauray // Antibes’ and a stamp in the shape of a santon (?) Antibes, second half of the 20th century L. 60 cm ‘Lauray’ is a ceramics brand created by two friends: Laurent Rivara and Ray Camart (1908–1980). The name ‘Lauray’ is a contraction of LAUrent and RAYmond.
