Description
Michel Caugant (20th century) Set of two terrines In polychrome earthenware. Both are shaped like lobsters, in high relief. The first terrine is ‘plain’, whilst the second is red, accented with gilding. 20th century W 26 cm – 34.5 cm Minor wear to the gilding In the 1960s, having taken over the family charcuterie business in Brittany, Michel Caugant came up with the idea of marketing his pâtés in zoomorphic, hand-painted earthenware terrines. Enhancing the product with a high-quality container was his strategy for standing out from the competition: the duck, the hare, the roe deer, the goose, the rabbit, the ostrich, the sole, the cockerel, the partridge… A cheerful bestiary was born!
