Description
Mirror frame Carved wood. Rectangular in shape with a scalloped pediment, it is decorated on the sides with vine tendrils that meet in the centre, framing a Medici vase. In the lower section, an elegant six-stove ship is depicted. The pediment is decorated with a woman’s head, her hair loose, in the classical style, set against a background of scrollwork and acanthus leaves. Bears the carved date ‘1922’. The back is entirely studded. Partly carved on a thin wooden board mounted on a thicker wooden frame. A buttress at the rear of the pediment. Screw-mounted. Early 20th century H. 82 cm – W. 60.5 cm (including base) Minor chips, damage (including woodworm damage to the frame structure at the back) and losses. A few pinholes. The pediment was certainly added by the artist at a later date.
