Description
Embroidery On silk, embroidered with cannetille and sequins, and painted. Gilded and blackened wooden frame. Depicts a temple of Love, with an altar set within a niche, housing the flame of Love and bearing the monogram ‘LS ’. The temple features colonnades, a lyre on the pediment, Cupid and a cherub holding a torch. Bears the embroidered inscriptions: ‘CONJUCTA’ (the spouse) and ‘MADE BY NANCY GALIBERT’. 19th century H. 30.5 cm – W. 38 cm SS Stains on the frame and small traces of verdigris. Minor damage to the frame, including pinholes.
