LA CHICORÉE ARLATTE Bleu Argent " Une Manifestation Imposante - Les Souverrains viennent en France acheter pour le Bonheur de leur Peuple " : Lithographed poster signed Ogé (Eugène- 1861-1936). Here Ogé assembles "Place de l'Opéra in Paris, under the leadership of Police Prefect Louis Lépine, a procession of foreign sovereigns coming to shop in Paris. At the head of the parade were Edward VII, in Prince of Wales costume, then the young Alphonse XIII, a little frightened by the crowd, Leopold II, very ceremoniously greeting the Parisians and holding the cut-out silhouette of Cléo de Mérode at the end of his cane, and Nicholas II, fiercely trying to protect his supply of chicory threatened by the Mikado, Franz Joseph I of Austria giving his arm to William II, Victor Emmanuel III holding his helmet in his hand, the Shah of Persia Mouzaffer-ed-Dine, and finally, preceded by two black servants, Jacques Lebaudy, "Emperor of the Sahara", perched on a camel and wearing, as a crown, the hereditary sugar loaf.
