In 1730, the young entrepreneur Jean-Baptiste Court de Payen founded a soap factory in Marseille, which quickly became one of the most renowned in the country, and which he ran until 1775.
It moved to 10 Boulevard de la Corderie under the management of his heirs, the Court de Payen family, and from 1918 also the Falque family.
From this date, the soap factory moved to Aygalades. The soap factory went out of business in the 1970s, when soap lost its usefulness with the arrival of washing machines. From the beginning of the 19th century, the manufacture of White Marseille Soap with Olive Oil was one of the technical feats that contributed to the great reputation of the Court-Payen company.
