THE JOURNAL - Very rare kiosk in the form of a Morris column in lithographed sheet metal circa 1894. Good condition, beautiful colours, some alterations/oxidation to be noted. Point missing. 24 cm high. Numerous illustrations, notably signed Jules Chéret for the Palais des glaces on the Champs Elysées, the Bénédictine liqueur, the bellboy signed Caran d'Ache and a newsagent. "J.G.Ed.Reg" mentioned at the bottom. A French daily newspaper founded by Fernand Xau (1852-1899), the first issue of the Journal appeared on 28 September 1892. The editorial office moved to 100, rue de Richelieu, Paris. A former manager of Buffalo Bill's circus tour in France who had become a journalist, Xau wanted to launch a "literary newspaper for a penny" that small shopkeepers, workers, teachers and employees could read.from 1913, the Journal's circulation reached one million copies.it ceased publication for good on 8 June 1944.(source: francearchives.fr)
