Rare flat enamelled rim thermometer with built-in grid circa 1927-35.
Signed: "Jean d'Ylen".
Good condition, superb colours with all the golds surrounding the lettering, some chips/alterations in the corners, left margin and a little in the background.
Depiction of his famous Pierrot who fears that the rise in temperature will melt his tablets.
Enamel: "émaillerie Alsacienne de Strasbourg". 110.5 x 39.5 cm.
Jean-Louis PUPIER, St Etienne, 1860, set up his first chocolate factory and opened his first shop, initially called Chocolaterie spéciale du Commerce. In 1958, Pupier came under the control of Jacquemaire (Villefranche), a company that was to be absorbed by the BSN group - Pupier's production was then entrusted to Chocolaterie de l'Union.
