In 1765, the first rums distilled in the "Trou Vaillant" distillery in Martinique were exported to North America under the name of Rhum Saint James. Between 1882 and 1885, Paulin Lambert bought the "Trou Vaillant" distillery and registered the Saint James brand with its famous square bottle.
